KRAH PIPE PROCESS

Concept Design & Engineering

A granular bed and surround detail is standard for the installation of the Krah pipes system. The trench bed and surround details are to ensure the most cost effective and optimum construction to suit each individual project.

 Static calculation and determination of the profiles
The more information is available, the more detailed a pipe can be produced according to the requirements by using the Krah pipe system the right profile for every action can be defined.
It is very important that the pipe is installed exactly as stipulated in the static calculation. Here the trench depth which has to be given by the customer is particularly significant.

 Calculation of Flow Rate
To determine the flow rate “Q" for a fully filled pipe in a continuous discharge, the socalled “normal discharge”- for public sewer pipes, the ATV A 110 standard and alsothe European standard DIN EN 752 recommends to use the formula which is relatedto Prandtl-Colebrook and is called the “general discharge formula”:

Q= flow rate [m3/s]
Di = internal diameter[m]
V= kinematic viscosity for sewage [m2/s]
(acc. TO ATV A 110:v=1.31 x10-6[m2/s])
j= energy gradient, at normal discharge [-]
k= hydraulic effective roughness [m]
g= acceleration due to gravity
The values of k is indicated in the table of the ATV A 110 standard as real roughness of 0.25 to 1.50 mm (depending on the kind of pipe). All possible losses are included in the value.

Raw Material Selection & Sourcing

HDPE, or High-Density Polyethylene, is a type of polyethylene plastic that is known for its high density, strength, and durability. It has a higher molecular weight and a lower degree of branching than other types of polyethylene, which gives it greater strength and chemical resistance. HDPE is commonly used in applications where these properties are essential, such as in containers, pipes, geomembranes, and injection-molded products. It is also recyclable, which makes it an environmentally-friendly choice. HDPE is resistant to weathering, UV radiation, and temperature changes, making it suitable for outdoor applications.

Manufacturing Process

The plastic (PEHD or PP) is melted in the main extruder (mostly black material to provide the required UV-resistance of the spiral pipe) and in the co-extruder (mostly yellow material to provide the required bright, inspection friendly inside surface). In the melt distributor  the material flow of the main extruder is divided into two flows; one flow is for the spiral pipe inner layer and other flow is for the outer layer (corrugation layer).
The ratio between the two flows is adjusted. In the inner wall die head the black material (from the main extruder) will be merged with the yellow material (from the co-extruder) and the result will be a solid two-colored band for the waterway of the spiral pipe.
In the other die head a core-tube will be coated with the black material to produce a round profile. The band from the inner layer die and the coated core tube from the other one is jointed together on the rotating mandrel (V2) to produce the pipe. By closing the material flow of the second die head a solid socket and spigot are produced homogeneously and during the actual production process of the profiled pipe, which means that no additional work and machines are required. By changing dies and the production program several profile constructions and wall thicknesses can be produced.

Advantage of technology

 Online to produce socket and spigot
Eagle Machinery make special design to produce the spiral profile pipe with socket and spigot for several different jointing method during the spiral profile pipe production process, such as electro fusion joint and rubber seal joint. The socket and spigot is made online without other machine, it can meet any engineering design and helps to keep the low investment.

 Flexible production

Eagle Machinery make unique design for the spiral profile pipe machine to produce the PEHD/PP spiral pipe from DN200 to DN4000mm on one line. The production changing time is less than 15minutes to change one diameter to another diameter or to change one profile design to another design. This machine can produce the spiral pipe with ring stiffness from SN1 to SN16, even more and it can produce pressure pipe and non-pressure pipe

 High output
The machine output can be upto 1400kg/h with high efficiency extruder.

Quality Control & Testing

Before production control
The raw materials and any other input are tested before production, for example the melting flow ratio, moisture and color. Usually any new delivery of material is tested before it is stored. Every test is documented, analyzed and filed.

During production control
During the production the individual working steps are continuously supervised and documented. Moreover the most important dimensions are measured and if necessary, corrected.

After production control
After the production, the final product is tested and compared to the requirements of the customer. The final minute is written and the documentation is finished. In order to guarantee that the static theoretic values are conforming to the reality, pipes are continuously taken out of production and they are tested with the help of ring stiffness according to DIN 16961 or ISO 9969.

Logistics & Transportation

The transport of Krah pipes is very easy as they are very good to move due to the low weight. It only has ensured, that the pipe cannot move and that they are stored in the right way, in special cases, e.g. if the pipes are shipped in containers, it is recommendable to adapt the total length of the pipe to the shipping conditions in order to use the space efficiently.

Long life time

Krah pipes is of low investment costs and a service life over 100 years reduce the operating costs due to the material and special E-fusion joint.

Earthquake resistance

Due to the flexibility of the Krah pipes, it allows deformation without leakage or breaks, even in areas, which are highly affected by earthquakes.

Corrosion Resistance

Profiled pipe and fittings are made of the same material and jointed to one homogenous piece and they are joined by a rubber ring or electro-fusion water tight joint.

UV-Resistant

Black polyethylene sprial pipes are permanently resistant to atmospheric corrosion and UV radiation, as the polyethylene used contains carbon black which acts as both a pigment and an ultra violet stabiliser.

Resistant to Micro Organisms

Polyethylene is not nutrient media for bacteria, fungi and spores, so that the material is resistant to all forms of microbial attack as well as both sulphureous acid and sulphates.

Installation

The installation time is faster than other materials as the standard pipe lengths are between 5.5 to 6 meters long. Fewer lifts mean unloading and loading the pipes into position saves even more time.
